Takes two to Tango: Meraki MR and Cisco Umbrella Security Integration

With the average cost of a malware attack on a company being $2.4 million1   cybersecurity can no longer be an afterthought for products, software and networks. The risk of vulnerabilities in security postures increase further with an explosion in BYOD and distributed devices. The question that arises is whether this demand for building a secure network in such a context will be led by software or hardware.

Cisco is now making it easier than ever to deploy and manage security across your wireless deployments by integrating two of its leading cloud solutions.

Cisco Meraki, the leader in Cloud management, has an easy to use dashboard where you can manage all your Meraki network devices, MX Firewalls, MS Switches, MR Access Point and MV Cameras.

Cisco Umbrella the leader in cloud security uses DNS, the foundation of the internet, to block Malware, Phishing, and Ransomware C2 callbacks.

These two cloud solutions have now joined forces by integrating the Umbrella Security Policies and the Meraki MR Access Point SSID or group policy. Now IT admins have a more secure and simpler way to configure and protect their users, by applying Umbrella policies directly in the Meraki Dashboard.

This is done via an Umbrella Network Devices API key.  This key is generated on the Umbrella Dashboard and then copied to the Meraki Dashboard. An API is an application program interface (API) with code that allows two software programs to communicate with each other. Once this is done Meraki MR SSID or group policies can be linked to Umbrella’s security policy.
