Acronyms in the world of technology can be confusing. LED, UHD, 4k, LCD – what do these acronyms stand for and how is an average consumer supposed to figure out which product is right for their business?

What’s the difference between LED and UHD?

The main difference between LED signage and UHD signage is UHD displays have a higher pixel count allowing for sharper images and higher definition images. LED signage can be UHD and vice-versa.

LED stands for light-emitting diodes

Each diode acts as an individual pixel for the video display. They produce light when the semiconductor chip is powered up, creating the colours and images on the screen.

The calibration involves two steps – one in the factory and one in the field. In the factory, each sub-pixel is colour calibrated independently focusing on brightness, colour chromaticity and uniformity. In the field, a photo of the screen is taken with a digital camera, the photo is then transmitted to the National Occupational Classification then the photo is analyzed and calibrated remotely.

UHD stands for ultra-high-definition

UHD —also known as Ultra HD or 4K— utilizes twice as many pixels as traditional 1080P LED displays.
